    Premise:

    Set in rural Pennsylvania in 1897, this is the story of a small village surrounded by a woods inhabited by a race of "mythical creatures".

    Adrian Brody (Best Actor last year for "The Pianist")

    Joaquin Phoenix
    William Hurt
    Bryce Dallas Howard (daughter of Ron Howard)

    Studio:

    Disney

    Director and Screenplay:

    M. Night Shyamalan (first of a 2 picture deal with Disney)

    Shooting starts: Oct. 14, 2003

    Release target: August, 2004

                          I liked "Signs". A lot. It wasn't "scary" per se. It was character-driven, and suspenseful... and you jumped in a few spots that you KNEW he was going to make you jump.

                          As for "first" movies, Signs is in fact his THIRD big-budget movie. He also did "Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable".

                              The guy is severely overrated as a film director. I've seen all 3 of his major films, and they were alright.. but that's about it. Unbreakable was actually the most interesting, because the concept was pretty original.. no ghosts or aliens there.

                              Oh, and as for..

                              Adrian Brody (Best Actor last year for "The Pianist")
                              He won the award, which just means he was in this year's latest melodramatic holocaust drama, which made all the shallow lefty bleeding heart hollywood women (and feminized men) weep in an oh-so-politically-correct way. It doesn't make him best actor.

                                  In fact I am, I justs didn't like signs. It was just... shallow, kinda. Left me unimpressed. Maybe because it was a little over-hyped, maybe I had a bad day, maybe I don't like his style, maybe he's just not as good a director as some people think

                                  I haven't seen 6th sense and unbreakable, so I can't comment on them.

                                      I think he's an EXCELLENT director.

                                      Being a good director is more than most people think. I think PART of the problem is that they're letting lots of directors write screenplays nowadays.

                                      Even the best director/producer in the entire world could use a little screenplay help. (DO YOU HEAR ME, LUCAS?)

                                                  Lucas is/was a good director.

                                                  The problem is that he gets SOOOO caught up in all the other aspects of Star Wars that you forget it.

                                                  He has directed lots of good films.
