Today is a very sad day!

    A very sad day.

Anna Lindh our foreign minister(secretary of state) was stabbed while shopping yesterday and died because of the injuries this morning. A very good and important person is dead.

I can't believe this happened, not here in Sweden. I hope they find the person responsible for this.!

I agree, very sad, especially as Sweden is one of the few countries where high-rankers do not need bodyguards.

Pragmatically, will this mean a surge of sympathy voting pro-Euro this weekend?

Political assassinations (such as I presume it to be) like this are very difficult to track down. By definition, all politicians have many enemies and, if it is an individual who was the murderer (not an organisation), then very tricky. Look at the assassination of your PM several years ago.

    My condolences to Sweden.

      That is very sad indeed.

I guess y'all need to push for sticter knife control laws. If there was no knives this could not happen.

          And this was.

What if that person doesn't have a gun to hold?

You can always run from a knife, dodging bullets can be more complicated.

This is soo depressing. I really thought she would make it.

I wonder what this will do to our "model" societies.
I hope nothing changes. I really do. Violence should not win - not ever.

And as for Joel: The knife WAS illegal. Nothing anyone can do about terroists (isnt this an act of terror?) through legislation.

Terroist can only be defeated through compassion, insight and education.
The perpetrator havent been reached by the above means. That is sad as well.

                    And this wasn't

                    BULLSHIT

All the arguments from the NRA, the US right-wingers and so on. They don't have a single logical leg to stand on. They rely on the emotional impact of anecdotes to bolster their flawed arguments.
Yeah that's right. Let something like this happen in the US or involving the US and it is bash away, bash away, bash away all.

At least I did take a moment to acknowledge the victim or victims in this situation before making my off the wall statment.

But that's not the point of this thread.
Nor was that the point of this thread.

It's interesting to see how people react when the shoe is on the other foot.

Sorry for my seeming insensitivity here but I am trying to make a point. I'm sure some will see it.
