That's because he was authentic; a singer/writer who lived a tough life and portrayed it in his music. It shows through every time.

May he finally get some long deserved rest.

              So sad

Jerry Lee Lewis is the only one left alive from the Million Dollar Quartet.

Sam Philips passed away recently as well.

It is very sad. An important artist and a great man has died. This really threw me.

                  Eh?
Sam Philips did not belong to the million dollar quartett.
The four singers/musicians were Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins.
(did some nice jamming there, I have a CD of it...)

Still it's true that Jerry Lee Lewis is the only one of those that's still alive and will be celebrating his 68th birthday soon.

Sam Philips didn't belong to the quartet. However he discovered and recorded them.
