But the magnetic constriction is whats in StarTrek, so its got to work!!!
The Farnsworth stuff does look interesting, but I do wonder how big the containment chamber would have to be, and how fast the material gets saturated with nutrons.
The FUSOR's I've read about have chambers the size of a tennis ball and some with significant neutron fluxes using standard power sources. The U of Wisconsin achieved 2.2 x 10^7 neutrons/s in their low powered experiements using D-D.
There is a community of amature FUSOR (actually IEC: inertial electrostatic confinement) experimenters. You might want to read some of their results then extrapolate what would happen with some serious facilities.
