Too much spare time?
Willingness to help others?
Sadness?
Geekness?
Lack of 'real' friends?
A good place to find like minds?
A place to find help?

Taking part in MURC games...
Sharing stories...
Helping people with issues (posts in general hardware/software: material issues; posts in lounge: other )

But, apart from your negative reasons, there is another one:
