    Any Gardeners out there?

The old vine in my greenhouse seems to have an unwelcome growth on it this year:

Any ideas what it might be, if it is a problem, or how to remove it?

    TIA
    FT.

It's growing nipples so that you pay it more attention Tony

It really is time some one had a chat to you about the birds and the bees. If your bird's nips looked like that you've been deceived!

And yes, I would be spending much more time in the garden

Looks like a fungus among us.
A wider shot would help put in context.
And, what kind of vine is it?

I had a little fig tree that got some parasite that looked just like that. Killed the tree.

... common issue accountant types have

I've seen similar on a few things growing around here earlier this spring T. No idea what it is exactly, but the ones I've encountered are an protected egg pack which hatch outwardly.

Looks like some kind of scale insect.
                      eg Tessellated Scale (Eucalymnatus tessellatus)

                        Bingo! Thanks Chuck.

It's not clear from that page what it might do to my vine, or how I should handle it - any ideas?

(It was there last year, but only a couple and to be honest looked like a gnarly growth so I ignored it

                          They are sucking insects.
                          A few don't matter.
                          A lot can kill.
For example a nice mock orange we had in our back yard

Just take a sample to your local garden supply and find out what they recomend for your situation.
Do it sooner than we did.

                          Good luck!
