That sounds like a really great car, overall. How far removed is the current "Hemi" from the old 7 L hemi from the '60s?

The 5.2L and 5.9L Hemi's are the same 318 and 360 CID blocks they've always been, so they're not too far removed. Obviously a lot more electronic and emmissions equip....

As far as the Chrysler 300, I like the model from a few years ago. The new body is too boxy for my taste.

I'm annoyed with all the advertisting I see for HEMI....seems like you can get just about anything from Dodge or Chrysler with it in it. Its way over played IMO

I thought there was only one 5.7l Hemi. The 318 and 360's are the older V-8's. Right?

That might be. I haven't stayed up on what they currently market as 'hemi'. I do know the engine sizes I mentioned are still in use today, and in the old days where available as hemis, along with the big blocks.

Engines aren't for top speed, they're for acceleration (getting to 95mph quickly). And bigger cars. And in my case, to compensate for altitude.

A Turbo charged engine will compensate for altitude, all you need is a 2.5 litre 4 banger with a turbo charger and you're set.

You don't even need a turbo.
My putzy little throttlebody injected 2.2l Dodge will break the speed limit driving up the mountains here.
3 of my last 4 vehicles have had non-turbo 2.2l, the other was a2.5l V6. All have had enough power to go plenty fast enough.
I do miss the acceleration/passing power of a good ol V8. Don't miss the speeding tickets though
