    I'm there.

Well - not right now, but you get the idea.

Ever read Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy? ("Red Mars", "Green Mars", "Blue Mars")

An excellent set of stories. One space advocate (don't remember which one) said "These books should be required reading for the next generation of Mars astronauts"

I dunno.. it would suck to be sealed up in a can for two years drinking your own (and other's) recycled piss and shit. The longer time means increased risk of something going horribly wrong, too. And when you get there what's to see? A big desert full of red dirt. No thanks.

You don't have to be stuck in a can for two years if the VASIMR engine is used. More like 2-3 months. NASA's investing heavily in it.

I think with mars<-> earth travel you have to go when the orbits are about right, so you ging to have to sit around for a while on mars anyway since there are no hotels on mars, a stinking little tin can is the best you will have...

I think its still well to early to do a manned mars misssion, but it is the tight time do a bunch of practice runs ...etc

If NASA and the other governments wait long enough they'll find Rutan's Tier Two crew sitting there when they arrive

Yeah, these big agencies are moving with tiny steps...a stay at a lunar Hilton during my lifetime? Possible Going to Mars...not likely.

I actually am there ... or I should say my signature on a microdot is there (on the Viking lander).
