I have become addicted.
To a MMORPG named WoW (World of Warcraft).

I played in the beta.

But now I cant find the retail anywhere.


I would therefore ask if any of You Murcers have seen a copy in your local shop?

I would very much like to purchase one (or better, two) copies of said game.

I will wire the cash needed through paypall (f.ex.).

DukeP: European release will be sometime early next year. You will not be able to play on european servers (which are nonexistant for retail at the moment anyway) with an american version, and vice versa. They said they might introduce that in the future, but who knows...

I'm also waiting, though I didn't get a spot in the beta

I really dont want to play on the EU servers.

½ my online friends are from US.
(The rest plays on US servers as well).


Lets not get into the region 1/2 whatever DvD thing.

The only reason that publishers launch specialised EU servers, is to cather for people who have no english skills.

And ehm. If they cant speak english, how am I supposed to speak to them?

Well, I can speak a little french and german, but Polish? Italian? Flamsk? Spanish?

Seriously, all the EU servers I have ever played MMORPGs on, have been like the proverbial tower of babylon.

Careful, I don't understand it yet, but I heard that they're even divided up in the US by timezone.

Thanks for the warning. That would be totally lame if they did that. It's really common for parents to pick up games and toys for their kids while they're away on business and I can imagine all the crying kids who's copies of WarCraft won't load just because their daddies bought it for them from another city.

There are groups of servers for different time zones but you can play on any one you want, no real-life local restrictions. The in-game day is 24 hours long so if you play in the same time zone that you live in the time will be syncronized with RL. Played the first stress test and open beta, was interesting at first, but it got old quick.

ya I found WOW very cool game to play I like the cartoony look to it as its keeping with the warcraft theme but alas I have gone to the dark side and play EQ2 which is just as good as WoW but more group oriantated and guild inducing with status points merchant perks and such
imo you cant go wrong with either one for once the customer has a real choice

WoW do need some aclimatisation.

For one, its not meant to be or look realistic - its meant to look like the Warcraft games. This makes it decidedly cartoonish.

When this is said - the sheer scale of it is breathtaking.

Where other MMORPGS have you use some sort of "portal" technology - Wow does something new:
1) An underground train, that connect the dwarven and the human city. In which you ride. For 5 minutes. halfway through the tunnel, you come out on the seabed - with windows, fish (and at times, players) on the outside. Yes, you can jump off the train (almost fatal, but) or simply use the emergency trail besides the tracks - and WALK all the way. This takes half an hour.

2) Boats sail from one coastal town to another.
3) Blimps propel you through the air along the major Horde trade routes.

And theres the shortlenght Taxi's: Griffons, Pegasi etcs, that fly you from one destination to another, with swoops and climbs to make you dizzy - and a view enroute next to none.
Seing players on the ground jump out of the way when your flying steed banks around a stand of pine trees in the snowclad mountains or glide low over the flat plains and grasslands, barely avoiding the longnecked giraffs and having the Hyena's laugh in flock as you speed past them.

Its not that different from so many other mmorpgs, except in one thing: The attention to detail. Its so very near to being perfect, that you often feel more like a tourist than a gameplayer.

ya i liked wow's setting was very entertaining and immersive the solo play is great and from beta i enjoyed the crafting system its very casual gamer friendly
