Amazing that the photographer lived, and that next-to-last photo is one of the most striking I've seen yet.

I'm sorry, but to me, these pictures show the ignorance of many humans.
These people lined up to be washed away.
"Ooooo....there's a giant wave coming...lets go stand by the shore and watch it!"
Duh.

I am by no means saying this is the case for the tens of thousands killed by this act of God/nature, nor do I mean to belittle the great losses suffered by families around the world... But the few people in these pics are/where morons, all deserving of Darwin award nominations.

I get the impression from the camera angle, that the photographer was much higher (and therefore safer) than the rest of the muppets lining up on the sea front.

Kruzin is right. It is a tragedy, but if you saw a massive wave heading for you, do you:

a) run away like brave Sir Robin
b) put your kid on your shoulders and walk to the front so that you/they can have a better look

I do not think these images are from this Tsunami. They are from the yearly flood in the Qiantang-river, China.
