She is not being charged with a single charge of stat. rape.
All totaled, she is being charged with 28 counts total of sexual battery and stat rape.

That's 28 crimes, 28 punishments, with a possible total sentence of over 100 years.
Comparing 28 counts of 2 crimes vs. 1 count of one crime is hardly comppairing apples to apples...

There really are different degrees of molestation...you just can't compare a hormone-driven 13-year old boy having sex with a 20smthn great-looking female teacher with a 13-year old girl being 'touched for the very first time' by a male teacher.

The emotional experience is very different for boys and girls at that age...my first experience was at 14 (she was 18) and I didn't see it as something life-scarring, I just thought "nice, I'll definitely be doing this again" Girls at that age seem to form a much deeper emotional attachment, which is why, as an older male, taking advantage of their confidence is (and should be) seen as abuse. Let's not forget that most of the time it's guys that chase girls, not the other way around...we would see such an experience as very exciting and flattering (as can be deduced from the replies above), whereas they would indeed be extremely hurt when their first partner would desert them.

I think any guy who goes after a girl just for the sex and has no concern for her feelings is pretty much a lowlife, no matter what his age, but when guys are younger, they usually have not learned to be real sensitive. An older woman usually knows this and can be more understanding of a fling as temporary (though both these women seem to have become too attached, which might have been their downfall.) When teen girls are restricted to these same teen guys, however, they get hurt just as if some older guy decided to just seduce and screw them, then dump them. There really needs to be some consideration shown in these cases to what the relationship was really like. If the older guy really loves the younger girl and lets her feelings be his guide to what happens in the relationship, that's fine and perfect. If the older woman doesn't get so attached to the younger guy that when he dumps her like a hot potato (or acts like he wants to) she gets obsessive and stalks him, but just lets it be, that's not a problem. The real problem is these things are usually about real relationships rather than just sex, and when issues happen as they always do in relationships, sometimes normal problems become legal ones. These guys aren't just dumping their older lovers for being all clingy, but condemning them to life in prison. I'm sorry, but that's just way outta hand.

btw, KK.. being a parent kinda puts blinders on you sometimes. Parents are human, too, and range from the hysterically overprotective to the libertine. It's easy to see your teen kid as still being a baby, and some really are more than others, but if you don't respect their feelings one way or the other, that's not being helpful to them at all. I'm sure my folks had no clue what crazy sex fantasies were going on in the head of their innocent looking 13yo son, but let's just say I remember vividly wanting access to a fine older woman at that age. They were just fantasies until later, but you can bet if that hottie had been living in my house and there had been any chemistry at all, I would have been all over her. Ah.. if only I could go back in time and have Jacqueline Bisset as our live-in maid..

If you want to see a very realistic portrayal of one of these relationships, see a German film called Heimat. Let's just say it's nothing but bliss for the couple until the "victim's" older half-brother finds out and goes on a moralistic puritan crusade to get rid of the woman through the legal system. The younger half-brother never forgives him for what he does. Heimat is a seriously great film, by the way. Really worth seeking out.

Ever been around a horny girl driven by her hormones? ......... how is it different for boys or girls?. If my wife can be used as an example for the behavior of a typical female, I should probably consider myself lucky I still have all my appendages attached to my own body.

Personally don't think you can really put an age to readiness for all the baggage that goes with sex - the age thing is there so twits that cannot think for themselves and appreciate the implications of their actions if they were to get involved with minors, can be made/forced in a rather indirect manner to reconsider what they are doing by inserting an extra obstacle in their path - be they male or female.

The fact that you have an extra hole between your legs does not change the way you should be treated - all human beings should be treated exactly the same and no distinction should be made simply on your gender when entering into a relationship with another person.

I've made my views clear in the other thread, but this Israeli case may be different, in that no crime may mean that the boys are already over the age of consent in Israel. I'm reasonably sure that if the boys were 13/14, it would be looked on in a different light.

Incidentally, I looked in the diccy for a definition of rape. I found the following:

statutory rape US sexual intercourse with a person under the age of consent.

With this definition, it seems quite clear that statutory rape was committed: consent is no excuse.

I think that people who are 18 shouldn't be in a relationship at all, but I'm a prude I suppose. I also believe in not getting into relationships that aren't love orientated, and don't believe in sexual realtions outside of a relationship, so my views are a little extreme anyway.

Well, I'm probably even more extreme than you, EJ. I'm still a believer in virginity (of both sexes) until marriage. It was the norm when I was young and really fell by the wayside with the flower power movement and free love, in the 1960s, possibly as a result of the Pill, which took away the moral responsibility of a large number of unwanted babies - and the fear of what one's parents would say. It was made worse by the use of abortion and the morning-after pill as means of ending unwanted pregnancies. I'm totally opposed to abortion, except:
a) where the mother's life is in danger
b) where the foetus is badly damaged and is unlikely to be viable
c) in cases of proven rape/incest.

However, that having been said, I'm equally opposed to the murder of doctors who practise abortion, which is worse than the abortion itself.
