ever wanted to know how your name would like look written in these japanese signs?

Click on the little loudspeaker signs beneath the signs and you hear them (have no clue how correct that is, maybe one of our japanese's here can enlighten us)

Then click on "your name in kanji" and you get the meaning of the signs (i am "Governing Truth Protect" whatever that means .... )

It's really best not to try to translate western names to Kanji. when you do so, your trying to translate phonetic sounds...

Most - apart from old clan names - names in Japan come from the census dated around 1865 ish. it went something along the lines of this

Census guy: so whats your last name?

Guy in field tending rice: don't have one.

Census guy: where do you live?

Guy in field tending rice: over there.

Census guy: <writing> lives in middle of a field, last name 'middlefield' (tanaka - ç”° ä¸_ )

You actually need a "Western" name, such as Leon, in order to get it to translate. Generally, it catches the "Eastern" names already and doesn't bother translating for those.

Roughly, it can be read as:
One Righteousness, First Righteousness, One Good, plus variants. eg Righteousness First, etc.

Tried doing this in Kanji, not sure if it'll show up properly. (Use Japanese Shift-JIS to read)
