    Yet another math question

    I'm stuck on this question for my final. I need to solve for the lower case r in the equation. Ugh...last week of Algebra 2.

      multiply both sides be R+r, then divide both side by I
      it should be fairly easy after that.

        Not sure but the second line is the same as the first (Subtrat R from both sides, then divide both sides by r.

        I get to [(E over I) - R) = r

        From first line:
        1. divide both sides by E (I/E = 1/(R+r)
        2. Inverse both sides (E/I = R+r)
        3. Subtract R from both sides ([E/I] - R = r)

        Makes sense?

                The second line is me setting them up to be multiplied together...thats where I'm stuck

                  In that case, that is a good approach. You just need to realise that on the right hand side, you can scratch both R+r expressions.

                    Actually, it is wrong how you did it. You write:
                    R+r.I = R+r.(E/[R+r]) and it should be:
                    (R+r).I = (R+r).[E/(R+r)]

                    Then, you will see how you can actually write this as
                    (R+r).I = E

                    Divide by I:
                    R+r = E/I

                    Subtract R:
                    r = (E/I) - R

                            Whoa whoa!

                            Let's back up.

                            I don't see what they're looking for. They tell you, in essence:

                            2 * x = 2 * x, solve for x.

                            Are you certain you're including all the information, here?

                            Also, SOME people here need to remember that:

                            R + r * 2 is NOT the same as (R + r) * 2, not even remotely.
