I think 40 full sized Jean-Claude van Dammes would pretty much kick that lion's ass.. as long as the lion was not highly trained in the martial arts himself, which would make for the ultimate kickass fight imho.

I think that we've established that all things being equal, 40 midget fighters could not kill one lion unless they resorted to some form of cheating and that said cheating would frustrate any honour associated with the act of fighting the lion, thus undermining the entire endeavor.

Yeah, we could ask WETA digital, they have a lot of experience in simulating hobbits and great monumental battles.

I think the midgets could do it, though - it depends on what the winning conditions are - they all must survive, one must survive, 50%? I doubt they could win with all surviving and still having having all their extremities, but I'd say over two thirds would survive, which I think is still enough to call it a win. Or what do you think?
