Well Theres a bad case of overreacting.

Its tragic that their daughter died.
But too book them because they played a computergame?

Infant death is something that just happen. If the child died from suffocation, it died while sleeping. They could have looked in at her 5 minutes ago and still she could have died.

Dead is dead. Nobody watches their children every minute. At least noone healthy of mind.

While you have a slight point, Duke, no one should ever leave a baby alone in an apartment. She might have made some kind of noise to indicate her distress, but there was no one there to hear. Really, if you have an infant, they do require a lot of watching.

Havent tried one myself, so I cant argue there.

Although I doubt that you would make much noise if you where capable of smothering yourself while you sleep...

(And no, I wouldnt leave that young a child home alone for that long).

Duke, you clearly haven't had a kid (I see you admit as much). At four months old, the child requires watching 100% of the time while they are awake, and nearly as much while they are asleep. Period. When they're awake, they aren't out of your sight, AT ALL. When they're asleep, you have the baby monitor, and a sleep-adjuster to keep them from rolling over and suffocating themselves.

Any parent who leaves their child alone before they're perhaps 4 years old should be shot - and even at 4 years old, 5-10 minutes is probably the limit. I'll go for a jog and leave logan watching a TV show, but I won't go any further than the end of the road.

Those people should be put to death. Your children are your MOST IMPORTANT responsibility. Period.

If only life were as easy as you
I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
            I would still get screwed

I agree mostly with Gurm (except the put to death part etc ). You don't leave a four-month baby alone, certainly not for 5 straight hours a baby at that age needs constant attention (feeding, sleeping, cleaning, etc). Sadly we'll never know if they could have prevented the death of their child.

At 4 months old they learn how to roll, which means it's dangerous to leave them unattended. If the parents left their child on a bed, or had any soft bedding near the child, they could easily suffocate. You are not supposed to leave a blanket in a crib, unless the child is very young and properly swaddled, in a crib until the child is old enough to situp or stand on their own. Suffocation caused by loose clothing, blankets, and soft crib matresses is thought to be the #1 cause of SIDS (Sudden Infancy Death Syndrome).

A muffled cry is never a good sign when your kid is young.

This is clearly a case of criminal negligence. You see the same sort of crime as parents leave their young child(ren) unattended in a hot car.

Unlicensed troublemakers them little monsters! Can't leave them an INSTANT without attention, especially when very young. Plus they move much faster than you'd think possible.

You know they're scheming too, especially when they go "hmmmmmm" but there's nothing you can do to prevent their next move. They might try some diversion tactics and will always catch you unguarded! Devious, devious, devious.

The worst is when they're quiet. You know it's already too late...

At our place in Pennsylvania... Logan was perhaps 1 year old when this happened. I put away his crayons in a locked tupperware container that _I_ hurt myself opening at times. The kind with the little plastic snaps.

Anyway, I went upstairs to shower. The living room is baby proof, the gate is up, the crayons are away on TOP of the entertainment center.

I come downstairs and go "what is that smell?"

The gate is on the living room side of the heater duct, which is in the middle of the floor - a bizarre inverse-gravity-driven heating system. Anyway, he MOVED THE LA-Z-BOY, climbed up it and some boxes (which he clearly must have STACKED in the chair), and got the crayon container... opened it (beyond his strength, you say? NAY, gentle reader!), and tossed them one by one over the gate where they landed on the heater, melted, and fell into the furnace... filling my house with molten wax.

                        In less than 5 minutes.

                          well, whether its misplaced blame or not;
WoW is EVIL. MMORPGs are evil. I suggest everyone stay away from them. They aren't healthy. An occassional video game is alright, but they consume too much time nowadays. And stuff like The Sims... wtf???
