The house where is Tom Cruise's wife lives in the movie is about 10 minutes from where I live

Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

WOW was just like any other invader movie. Stupid ending, and many retarded plot holes. The effects were nice, though.

I wouldn't even call it an alien invader movie, it's really just a disaster movie. And compared to some of the more recent ones, it's also the most realistic (The Day After Tomorrow, The Core.)

My big problem is, of course, the concept that the machines were buried here "millions of years ago". Uhh... if the aliens were HERE before we were here... why didn't they just colonize THEN? ADURRRRRH because then we wouldn't have a MOVIE!
The Internet - where men are men, women are men, and teenage girls are FBI agents!

I'm the least you could do
If only life were as easy as you
I'm the least you could do, oh yeah

My main fault with the plot EXACTLY.

            Gawd.......

As far as The Core goes it wasn't totally unrealistic, just 85%

The degree of the surface effects, how fast the EM reduction came on and how they fixed it were unrealistic, but not that drastic magnetic field reductions can occur and where they come from.

EM field reductions happen during magnetic pole reversals and those have been happening 4-5 times per million years for some time now. In fact Earths current field strength is only half what it was in Roman times. Many think we're headed into another reversal, but the timing is highly debatable.

There isn't even a partial defense for The Day After Tomorrow

The tripods actually make sense to me. They didn't at first, but then I remembered a theory I heard (if it's named, I don't know it). The theory goes that the most effective way to explore space is to create special unmanned probes, and send them out in all directions. The probes then land on planets, and use some of that planets resources to manufacture more probes, and send them out - this creates an exponentially increasing number of probes to help keep the density of the probes at an effective level as the volume of space they survey increases. All the probes send their data back to the explorers' base.

These probes could also manufacture a base of equipment/resources should their owners ever come to that planet, like the tripods.

Then the aliens just go around planet-surfing to the places that the probes reported favorably about.

My big problem with the story is that you think they'd send a scout party or get air/soil samples or something.

You say ALL that and don't think the probes can take samples?

Actually, that IS my problem. War machines buried until they're needed? I'm fine with that.

Knowing you're planning on wiping out the life of a planet and moving there yourself, without adequately testing the environment? Intergalactic stupidity. Even the FDA knows not to skip the "human test subject" phase.

I haven't seen the the movie yet, but I know the basic jist of the whole thing...why did the ending suck so bad?

because after non-stop action, the movie just stalls into the ending

Yup. Non-stop action and then suddenly... uhh... y'know it just ends without warning.

I'm not saying I didn't like it, or wasn't expecting the ending. That's how HGW wrote it, after all. Just telling you what people were complaining about.
