Elizabeth is one of those names that comes and goes in chunks of a half dozen years. You're a bit younger than us, and at least in New England in the mid 70's Elizabeth was very popular. It's still pretty popular up here - our friends named their daughter Elizabeth... but again it seems to fluctuate. You'll find precious few mid-20's Elizabeths... or maybe you'll find that they're all "Liz". *shrug*

Ive actually only ever met one Elizabeth my entire life. and that was last year when my boss purposely hired this girl named Mary Elizabeth just to erk me.

          no kidding.

from then on when i was in trouble he had to announce me as "Elizabeth Mary to the office please"

Yeah, us too. There are LOTS of 'G' names we like. Garett, Gareth, Gabriel, Gavin, (not Grover or Gordon, much to Logan's dismay - we negged "Elmo" and "Ernie" too). But again, the double letter thing... it might come down to it though... *sigh*

We like Aidan too. It's a bit popular with babies these days, but it's on our list.

its not actually bad once you think of it. as long as you have a middle name that doesnt start with the same your ok.

my name is Mary Elizabeth Morrison and that came out quite nice for being MM

We'd sort of like the child to want to use his first name, though. I know lots of people who choose to use their middle names, and that's cool and all... (like my friend Abby - Edith Abbot)...

We like Roman or Romanesque names as a general rule. We've considered Lucius/Lucian, Marcus, Julius/Julian (too close to Julie though)... but Octavian is a little too... we're not using Aurelius, Nero, Septimus, Augustus, or Flavius either.

There's also the "not really a rule" rule, which states that we can't re-use names that are taken by:

                          - Close relatives
                          - Not-so-close relatives that we have to see 3 times a year at family gatherings
                          - Friends
                          - Friends' kids
                          - Murcers
                          - People we hated in high school
                          - Famous people who make us cringe

my brother once did buisness with a family up north whos names were all greek. hard core too. they used to own all the christian radio stations in Louisville, ky before selling them and going into real estate. their father George named his three sons:

                            Olympus Zarris
                            Sparticus Zarris
                            Apollo Zarris

just food for thought. im sure they were made fun of as kids.

I jokingly suggested to Julie that we start a trend and name our child something COMPLETELY off the wall that sounds extremely meaningful. I'm unclear on the exact taxonomy, but perhaps something VAGUELY Native American-ish, or utilizing nouns/verbs in a foreign language.

"Sits in council with Eagles" or some crap like that. It'd make a bold statement... and might get us into casinos for free.

Edit: No offense intended to actual Native Americans, Chinese, or others who name their children using multi-word descriptive names, I was just trying to tweak my wife!
