I agree with KvH. Walmart drains much more out of society then they can ever give.

Defining "disposable" here.. "Money I actually have to spend after I pay all my bills and groceries and such."

Yeah, I'll give something, but not room in my tiny house. Too much experience with human nature. I work 10 hours a day.. that's lots of time for the thugs to kill my elderly father and take all my stuff.. really, do you think I'm that stupid? There's plenty of room in all the football stadiums and such. That's why they call them public buildings.

I have almost no time for myself.. most of that you see here. I have a 10yo Grand Am.. no fancy pickup. See what I mean by referring to "someone with means"?

how nice to stereotype all the leftover people in New Orleans as "Thugs" and potential killers

I guess your church then would be out to help all the refugees?.. or are they afraid of the "thugs" aswell?

Well given how many of the people remaining in New Orleans are acting I can forgive thinking of the as thugs in a generalized sense, but that's a whole different topic.

You're still avoiding the question of what you ARE willing to do by your insistence on debating whether you have a Grand Am or a pickup truck. Suggestions are being tossed about because you've yet to offer any hint of what you are willing to do.

For the record, everyone's (save for TnT apparently) gripe with your stance in this thread appears to be that you won't... can't realize that no matter how evil Walmart is and how much they may or may not take away from society on any other day, they are donating money this time to help people who are in need. Gripe about Walmart any other time, but not this one. As someone else said, analyze their actions in this situation when all is said and done, but not right now.

            Sigh.

Well looky here, Walmart is donating 15 million and setting up mini stores to GIVE-AWAY clothing, blankets, etc...

They are also collecting donations at all of their stores. They are so evil. How dare they do all of this.

Lets also give some kudos to SBC.

Just in Texas they're installing phones for free long distance phone calls in the shelters to the tune of $4 million a month for the duration. More will be prodived in other states as needed.

Texas itself is setting up major shelters in Houston (not only the Astrodome but two adjacent convention facilities) but in Austin and San Antonio. Smaller shelters will be provided in other locations as they can be.

Texas will also be admitting their children to Texas public schools for the duration of their need instead of setting up temporary schools in the shelters.

So much for "cowboy hicks" rep. many here and in Europe have assigned to Texans. They've stood up to the plate in a big way as only Texans can. Three cheers!!

                            Also;

Michigan will be taking at least 10,000 NO refugees with about 1,000 going to Detroit and the rest to suburban communities. Likewise their children will be admitted to our public schools for the duration.

Texas isn't the only "cowboy" part of the country that has taken in refugees

Right you are, and I've been made to feel right at home in Oaklahoma (and Colorado etc.) more than once.

It's just that all too many around the world look down their nose at the southern/western states without knowing one single whit about how good the people are there. Texas is just the archetype of their scorn.
