you take a can of coke, open it, put a penny in the can filled with coke.

A day later drain the coke and check out the penny, it will be so clean because the acid dissolved all the corroded copper, which leaves the penny extremly shiny

I then realized, hey if this is doing all that to a metal, what about my stomach!! I think people who drink too much coke or Pepsi will eventually suffer from ulscers etc. (just my view anyway)

You can accomplish the penny test at a much faster rate with any hot sauce. Tobasco was the first hot sauce I used for the penny test.

BTW, it takes about 3 minutes to make the penny shiny

Oh, read the ingredients for Mountain Dew sometime. It has brominated vegetable oil. In other words, it has bromine in it. Here is what bromine is:

Bromine is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Br and atomic number 35.A halogen element, bromine is a red volatile liquid at room temperature which has a reactivity between chlorine and iodine. This element is harmful to human tissue in a liquid state and its vapor irritates eyes and throat.

Bromine is also commonly used in spa's/jacuzzis to keep the water bug free(instead of chlorine). I think its has also been used as an antiseptic.

            BROMO-seltzer

Actually that doesn't contain bromine, but it was made by a company with that in its name. Pepto-Bismol on the other hand contains Bismuth, which is toxic in its elemental form but not as Bismuth Subsalicylate which is what's used in PB.

Has anyone done the 'penny test' on stomach acid?

              Just a question.....

On the Twinkie question I think I had one once when I was on holiday in the States.

I had forgotten that they'd done that. They did prove that it was great for toilet cleaning as well.

                    Great television.
