Reminds me: the daughter of my niece had trouble learning to walk. After visiting a doctor, it turned out she is what is called "hypermobile". She can for instance fold her hand backwards so that her fingers touch her forarm. The reason she has difficulty to learn to walk is that she can twist her legs so that her feet are actually facing the other way. During the learning period, she needs to wear boots (to prevent the feet from turning away to the left or right). Most of her joints also flex further (knees, elbows, ...).
Oddly enough, we have no such other cases in the family...
