Actually Californians have no idea how to drive in bad conditions, nor are the tyres sold in S. CA suitable for them, as they are a very hard rubber designed for longevity in high temperatures. I drove up to the Gen. Sherman tree once witha few cm of wet snow on the ground and wifey and I were almost ROFLAO at the antics of the few who made it - and those that didn't (not the best of roads under those conditions)! I had a Camry which I had rented in Seattle and which had good soft-rubber tyres. We knocked hell out of those tyres in the hot Arizona and California deserts, though. Did nearly 6000 miles sight-seeing from Seattle to San Diego, down through the mountains - phantastico!

BTW, this is one of my favorite things about farmers: if the weather is good they complain because the abundance of crops causes the value of their crop to go down. And, if the weather is bad, they complain because their crop lost value because it's been damaged. I think the only time I've heard happy farmers is when a freak storm destroys all crops but their own.

Ah they grow them better in Florida anyways

Florida mainly grows the juice crop (90% goes to juice) while California mainly grows the whole fruit crop, so the ability of either to make up for shortages of the other is extremely limited.

Worse yet Floridas crop is predicted to be the smallest in 15 years, causing orange futures to go up 58% even before the storms

Yeah, have a friend who's family sells their crops to some of the juice companies and they're not expecting to fare so well.

To be honest though, growing up we had nothing but Florida grown oranges (to eat), so I'm likely biased when it comes to which taste better

Love those, tangerines, grapefruit....most anything citrus. Also like kiwi, carambola, melons & mangos a LOT.
