Saw it today. I left the theatre with almost the same feeling as I did after watching Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

There was just too much going on without any cohesive elements, save for the 'cheese'.

there was some cool stuff going on in it. i kinda feel like they tried to make the story cover too much ground and it kinda suffered because of it. it skipped around a lot and there were a lot of scenes that, while I got the point of it, felt disjoined because there was little transition in the way of plot.

the timeline also seemed a little off. while there were a lot of things going on, the few times they talk about how much time has passed you are left with the impression that it was definately sooner than later.

Apparently it took in $104 million worldwide yesterday. Highest single day in box office history.

don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad. i just think they might have been a bit ambitious with it.

Way too ambitious. My biggest problem was the resolutions to the various plot lines - felt empty and, well, forced.

Nevermind that the film wasn't as dark as it should have been given the plot. There should have been greater level of emotional pain, instead there was fleeting glimpses of it.

And I have to say it, WTF was with Parker's hair? I know what they were going for, but I just wanted to laugh during the serious scenes when it was like that.

Edit: Just read the following article, which has some nice summations of elements in the film that felt wrong for me...

I think that they were saying he was goofy when he was bad since he is goofy when he is good. He was just far more of a jerk about it.

Emo Parker was the worst villian in the entire film. I enjoyed the film a great deal but I was VERY annoyed with a lot of it. This came very close to losing all the power and quality of the previous two movies with camp.

I didn't like it very much, but I was quite tired anyway.

Half the movie was about cakes!

Just got back. Not sure what to say yet. I'll post again tomorrow.

Emo Parker gave me a headache. Laughs too.

                      My 2 cents:

Sam Raimi wanted everything in the movie to be over the top -- action, graphics, comedy, cheese, etc.

I don't think he really cares if people think parts didn't work, because he probably wanted a balance by doing all extremes.

Although I absolutely HATE how movies always have monsters make that annoying high pitched squeal. Seriously what predator in nature makes a noise like that that is audible to our ears?

Overall: good, not great. Not enough Venom. In fact, not enough of any of the villians. Still, its good. But not great. The other two were great.

Music was a little off - I wish Elfman did the entire score.

Bruce Campbell was awesome (as always).

Spidey shouldve stuck with her, Dunst was all whiney and not nearly as good looking.
