Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!
Gawd almighty, I've just received another one, the UNEP Innovator's Award, an almighty heavy (guestimated 3 kg) lump of lead-free crystal glass, with a crystal ball etched with a world map sitting on top. This is the most prestigious award, amongst the 12 citations and awards I've received - and must surely be the last one in my career. This was totally unexpected because it has previously been given only to top scientists like Nobel Award (chemistry) winners Molina, Rowland and Crutzen and top officials like Tolba, Andersen, Sarma etc.
This has generated very mixed emotions in me: a measure of pride, of course, but also some humility (very rare!!!!), because I cannot measure up to the level of other awardees, by a long chalk. The citation mentions the fact that I pioneered aqueous cleaning technology in electronics in Europe, to replace CFCs, in the 1960s, long before ozone-depletion was an issue, easing the path to a more universal replacement when it became one.
Wow!
Please, no congratulations, as I do not deserve it.
The only reason not to congratulate someone is for stealing something (OK, excluding his fellow thiefs ) or cheating in order to get merit, you didn't so....
