Open Source 3D printer copies itself

Hmmm.... yes this would be cool. Have each generation of the machine build a slightly bigger version of itself... then, when the time is right, build my own spaceship.

...

Going in the other direction, slightly smaller with each version, would be also very interesting... (ignoring the thing that mechanisms don't exactly scale very good...)
