AFAIK he's still in politics and quite active at it.
I can think of quite a few things which are 'all over' yet still considered very flammable here and get thrown into the political/religious basket as soon as they pop anywhere else.

Have you even heard of him before the election campaign? (and if yes...well, most didn't)
