Man.... the second screen shot looks like those B movies made back when Conan was produced!!

I really hope it doesn't flop.

When Chris Hemsworth (played Jim Kirk's dad in Star Trek) was first cast as Thor there was some talk that he wasn't big enough. This just released pic is for them....

Actually, the look is very close to the comics and they have "A" list direction, cast & writing, unlike Flash Gordon.

Marvel displayed the films Loki, Odin and Thor helmets @ CC, and they also match.

Never read a Thor comic? Seen a painting of the Norse gods? They're often depicted with capes and helmets.

                        As for the comic depictions

If you want to get all technical, Thor was actually a red-head, shorter than other gods, stockily built, often drunk and had a horrible temper. The cape is more of a poncho, with a hood to keep off rain, not a cape in the superman sense of the term.

But artists rarely care about accuracy, and Stan Lee did co-create the comic representation, so the oversight can be forgiven. That and I doubt the real Thor would be sellable as a comic franchise.

                            Re: his temper

That's why at the beginning he's on Earth without Mjöllnir or his knowledge of his true nature - punishment.
