This was posted in the X-Men: First Class thread but deserves its own, especially with news that filming will start in New Mexico this coming April and will run to September. The majority of production will take place at Albuquerque, with additional location shoots in New York, Michigan and other as yet undefined locales.

Leaks from New Mexico (first shoot site) say that 2 alien species are in Avengers -

the Kree: highly advanced militarists. Alternately blue or pink-skinned humanoid or fish-like humanoid

the Skrull: shapeshifting reptilian-humanoids

Which brings up the possibility of both the Alien Activities Commission and the Kree-Skrull War storylines, or a run-up to them in an Avengers sequel.

In Avengers Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) will have a female assistant. Speculation is that this will be Janet van Dyne/Wasp. Powers include size manipulation, flight (sprouts wings when small), bioelectric blasts.

Casting rumors include Morena Baccarin (V, Serenity/Firefly), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield, CSI), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, L Word) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Death Proof, Sky High, Scott Pilgrim; coming - The Thing prequel)

My pick: Morena Baccarin. Good actress and way more than hot enough.

#2 = Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
