              He comes down in the US west/southwest near a military base, and towns out there look just like that. My understanding is that a lot off location shooting was done, so somewhere someone will be saying "HEY!!!...."

              Also, the comic character has evolved over the years - the Asgardians are more cosmic guardians than "gods." Thor gets sent here as punishment for "misbehaving" and arrogance.
