I like how Americans use word ship for sending stuff. I sometimes imagine a ship on land on it's way from Texas to Nebraska.

In other languages / cultures it's deliver, mail, send but in America it always goes on a ship.

'Ship' has multiple meanings when used as a verb; embark, send or transport. This can be on a ship (noun) or by most any other means of transport.

I would guess back in our colonial days most deliveries to/from Europe were by ship (noun), then it evolved into the more general term for any transport method. We do that kind of linguistic evolution a lot.
