light waves and waves in general have some pretty weird behiaviour, but i think in this case there representation of a pulse is a bit misleading.
Think about this.
When a tsunami forms they say it travels at the speed of sound....yet the coast where they hit have ocean levels hit go down hours before they hit....Is the tsunami hitting when the wave "crest" arrives or has already started "hitting" those hours before when the ocean goes out?Comment

A tsunamis backdraw is still just one waves foreward trough. These are multiple impulses.Dr. Mordrid

Could this just be an example of group velocity?
