The do close there ears and nostrils, as they spend most of there time snuffling amongst rocks/pebbles etc at the bottom of streams looking for food, eg yabbies(small fresh water crayfish)..etc
The little fellas thrash around very energetically underwater with their beaver tail so they do need the protect there eyes,nostrils and ears.
There bill is a very sensitive bit of gear so they don't need any other senses underwater.
They are the coolest creatures to watch in action.
