Advantages of XFree86 v4.2.0 over v4.1.0?

Given my G400MAX, which is already well supported in XFree86 v4.1.0, what benefit would I get out of version 4.2.0 (running in Linux)?

Upgrading would be a no-brainer if my video hardware were of recent vintage. With a video card that is 2+ years old, what can the newer software do that older cannot?

My best guess would be that some of the Mga openGL bugs have been fixed. But that's just a guess. I'm just hoping that the next card Matrox releases will support LInux and Xfree86 4.x.x

[Haven't tried any games yet as i've just finished putting on Linux on my machine after a bit of a break. I can say that the configuration of devices is definitely better. It even autoprogrammed the channels on my ATi TV wonder. My Logitech Quickcam Express works better in Linux than in WindowsXP.. I'm off to test gears and games.

Which distribution did you install? I know debian (Sid (Unstable)) automatically will tune the stations for you as well, as soon as you install xawtv.

I'm running Mandrake 8.2, which comes with XF86 4.2.0. I even have my C-net winmodem working, courtesy of beta drivers by Mark Boucher (mbsi). He's been contracted by conexant to do their modem drivers after they saw the progress he made on his own. I get roughly 1000 fps in gears. My desktop is set at 1600x1200x16bit. TuxPuck and TuxRacer run fine. Haven't tried Q3 yet as I don't remember where I put the binaries.
I have never liked installing a new version of XF86, I always had problems afterwards.
