Exactly. Though not so far.... I get major screen corruption in anything higher than 1280x1024, though I'm looking into that (I'm going to compile my own kernel to see if it helps. I'm using the 2.4.18-bf2.4 that comes with Debian Woody right now.)

I was thinking about asking this, but had to work out my own problems, which I've now done. I've managed to get it working in 1600x1200. Nice, crisp clean display.

So *BSD users, try it out. Though probably you'll have problems with any resolutions higher than 1280x1024, I had to compile the mtx.o driver for the specific kernel, and it's to enable the bus-master.

This linux specific kernel module crap just sucks for *BSD users. Why not use DRI and support all open source OSes????? I expected more from Matrox.

Leech watch your mouth. As I stated before Wombat has his reasons (and rightfully so) for taking the stance he has.

Might I also ask... Dire.... why the stance?

Watch my mouth, uhm.... WHY? Greebe, you're constantly blabbering about something, and frankly I wish you'd make some sense. When you're talking about computer hardware stuff, you usually know what you're talking about, but apart from that you should just be quiet and let Wombat speak for himself. It's not like he's your bitch. I don't think Wombat is anyone's bitch. In fact I actually respect him very much. His posts are generally informative and useful. You on the other hand just keep telling people to watch it, and blah blah. And what's this "Dire.... why the stance?" What the hell does that mean? I was simply stating that Wombat had said that Matrox isn't supporting Linux anymore and I was saying that I think Matrox will come through, because Linux is getting bigger and bigger and the Hardware Manufacturers would be stupid not to support it (though I also say that they're stupid for not supporting all the *nix OSs, but that's just me, just because all I use is linux and windowsXP doesn't mean that's what everyone uses)

I'm tired of you saying "watch your mouth" or "watch it" Watch my ass, as I take a dump on your face. You blathering idiot. You've caught me in a bad mood, now I will finish this rant with a bit of advice on the part of these drivers.

if the mtx.o module doesn't load (yeah, that's the one that is kernel specific that compiles when you run 'sh install.sh') then you won't be able to go into resolutions higher than 1280x1024x24 without screen corruption. Now with my crappy luck, I decided to install Mandrake 9.0rc2 and lo and behold, now I can't get the mtx.o to load. I had it loading and working fine with Debian with the new 4.2.1 packages, but for the life of me I can't get it to work here. It keeps saying that libparhl.so isn't being loaded, even though it IS in /usr/lib/ So now I'm stuck in 1280x1024. In higher resolutions there is major corruption, and it makes the mouse disappear on about the 20 or so lowest pixels. This is rather annoying, since I have everything where it should be. So my next attempt to fix it is re-compiling the kernel myself, so hopefully that'll fix some problems.

(I think one of the causes of my problems in the first place is that Mandrake, in their infinite wisdom, has kernel-headers 2.4.18 for the kernel 2.4.19 that comes with 9.0rc2)

                    Leech

Edit: By the way, Greebe. I KNOW Wombat has his reasons. I asked him about them.

Oh you poor blood thirsty leech, there are many things I say that unless you are truely clue'd in, won't have a flippin idea.

You were warnerd once before for this ridiculing behavour and now again. If you were ment to understand everything then you would know that you were part of the bigger picture, but you aren't.

                      Happy now?

Oh you pitiful soul. First off it would be clued, and flippin'. Second off, warned about what, and like you could do ANYTHING to me at all. Ridiculous behaviour, (another word you spelled wrong)considering I was asking Wombat why he felt the way he did, and all you did was tell me to watch it. Are you the mouth of Wombat now? If you were MEANT to understand me (or any human for that matter) then you'd actually read what people are saying and not put your own words into their sentences thinking that they said something they did not. As far as being part of the BIG picture, I know a lot more than you do. And no, I don't consider the BIG picture to have anything to do with Matrox, you, or these forums. After all, we all live in a minimal of three dimensions, but you apparently spend far too much time looking at a two dimensional display. As far as anything Matrox goes, I can make some good guesses, and so far it looks like they're going to support linux, wether it's open-source drivers or not. So do us all a favor and don't interject unless you're being helpful, don't go around and threaten other users of these forums.
