Also, RedHat started (slowly) dropping support for us "free" users.

Bastards! Oh well, never cared for Red Hat. Always ended up wanting to install 3rd party rpm's and running into dependancy hell. In my humble opionion, Mandrake (and possibly Connectiva) are probably the best rpm based distros. (Though on a side note, I haven't every tried Connectiva (one of the few I haven't tried) but they were the ones who ported apt to rpm, and that's the only way to fly :-) ).

There are so many great Distros out there now, that I'm wondering how Red Hat manages to get all the fame. I did find it cool that HP uses Debian as it's internal linux development platform :-) I love debian, after trying out many many distros, that's the one for me. But they'll probably take a while to get XFree86 4.3.0 (which is fine, 'cause knowing my luck it'd brake the mtx driver even more than it already is on my system :-(

I HAVE to use RedHat because I kind of like Gnome.... and Gnome is very well integrated in RedHat.

If you don't care about RedHat's business practice, it is actually a very "convenient" distro.

Yeah, gnome 2.2 is very well integrated into Debian unstable as well. I didn't say anything about their business practices, just that whenever someone mentions linux, they think Red Hat, and that's just not as true as it used to be.

I do agree though that Red Hat 8.0 did an awesome job in putting together a gnome desktop (though I still like Crux over Bluecurve) I think it funny that everyone was pissed at Red Hat for 'butchering' KDE. KDE is too windows like, and that's the reason I went with Gnome in the first place

I have KDE is FreeBSD 5.0 just for some "f0x0ring around".

One of the best thing about RedHat is their fonts. There is no need for some "de-uglification", the default is very nice! Except the default Mozilla/Galeon version doesn't support anti-aliasing and you have to manually upgrade it.

Yeah, that bugged me too, the first thing I did when I installed RH8 was to update mozilla. Fortunately the packages are in Debian for that, so apt-get install mozilla-snapshot works great :-)
