  • Linux & OSX

Ok, so OSX is built on, what...FreeBSD? Point is that it's basically a unix core.

Now, I've heard that OSX can be converted to run some linux programs and such (assuming they are recompiled for a PPC chip), but that you can just have OSX run an X server, etc.

But with the similarities between OSX and unix/linux, how hard would it be to have a linux emulator that ran OSX apps?

    Google for Mac-on-Linux.

If you're talking about running OS-X apps on an x86 OTOH, that would involve emulating the whole Macintosh, which I'm sure you understand the consequences of...
Blah blah blah nick blah blah confusion, blah blah blah blah frog.

OS X can use unix apps because it has an X11 server.

Unix can't run OS X apps because Cocoa (OS X's GUI framework) isn't available outside of OS X.

Right, but I figure that since other things are similar, Linux might have to do less work to emulate it than say...Windows.

Wow..great way to learn OSX w/o buying a mac.

          Oh wait...damn.

Q: Does it run on i386 hardware?

A: No, MOL can only run on PowerPC hardware since no emulation is performed. However, adding a PowerPC emulator for x86 is under consideration
Oh well. Maybe some other time.

Not much to learn about on Macs anyways. I admin Macs and the reason I got the job was because I use Linux and can work around the command line. No real experience with Macs before than except helping people use software.

Yeah, but it'd be nice to be really good with the GUI and know some tips and tricks.
