Challenge for yeh Linux buffs

Well I looked on my firewall router logs. One machine was listed and the other the linux machine was listed as unknown.
So I went back into networking and renamed the machine.
Now somehow the Linux host name had become jonxp I nearly call linux distros something linux. I've renamed it linux logged out and back in and it's like shit of shovel again.

Is it called jonxp when running Windows? Maybe it was allotted (somehow I don't feel that this is the right word to use, but that's what the dictionary suggested) that hostname by the routers DHCP.
Well, glad it worked out for ya', if that's what it means :P
Another minus for Linux though 9x or win2k/xp doesn't go mardy on the desktop when the host name is dupclicated. Doesn't like browsing the network neighbourhood only which Linux did happily.
