  • Linux games!

    Besides emulated games or ones used through WINE, what games do you guys play on Linux?

    Here are my favorites:
    Trackballs - ball-puzzle game

    Battle for Wesnoth - fantasy, turn-based fighting

    Glaxium - 3D shooting game (ala Rapter/1942/other flying games)

    Some games that look promising but I haven't tried yet:
    Freedroid RPG - fight those MS-bots!
    FreedroidRPG is an open source isometric role playing game [for Linux, Windows and MacOS]. The game tells the story of a world destroyed by a conflict between robots and their human masters. Play as Tux in a quest to save the world from the murderous rebel bots who know no mercy. You get to choose which path you wish to follow, and freedom of choice is everywhere in the game.

    Scorched 3D - 3D remake of the classic DOS game
    Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra 9, Opteron 170 Denmark 2x2Ghz, 2 GB Corsair XMS, Gigabyte 6600, Gentoo Linux
    Motion Computing M1400 -- Tablet PC, Ubuntu Linux

    Scorched3D doesn't like my parhelia It starts up just fine, but as soon as I try to start the game, it gives me this error;

    leech@skint:~$ scorched3d
    Display : ERROR: Failed to set video mode.
    Error Message: Couldn't load GL function: glBegin

    ----------------------------
    Requested Display Mode:-
    Driver:x11
    Resolution: windowed:800x600x32 (depth = 24)
    DoubleBuffer=On
    ColorComponentSize=5

    Scorched 3D Display : ERROR: Failed to set the display mode.
    Ensure that no other application is exclusively using the graphics hardware.
    Ensure that the current desktop mode has at least 24 bits colour depth.

    Any ideas? Other than that, I like Tuxracer, Crossfire, Gnome-nethack, Majesty, Mahjong, Solitaire, Minesweeper... Oh yeah, the time wasters. I know there are a few others I play, I just can't think of them. Oh yeah, the biggest would be Neverwinter Nights. But I haven't played that in a while.

        Well at least that verifies that it's not a Parhelia only issue. I'll try emailing the authors and see if it's really only programmed for nVidia or ATI or what...

          It's not a matrox only issue either. There is the same problem with nvidia drivers as well.... Though I installed from the deb packages from their site, so maybe just compiling it myself might work..... Anyone want to give it a go?

            I'm using Gentoo, so it was compiled on my computer. Too bad, I was really looking forward to playing it. Don't have time to figure it out, so I'll just wait.
