  • Parhelia and the 2.6.x kernel

Has anyone tried installing the P kernel module using a 2.6.x kernel? I am thinking of attempting this soon and would like to know if someone else has tried it yet.
I should have bought an ATI.

Take a look at the matrox tech support forum: http://forum.matrox.com/mga/viewforum.php?f=2

There are two sticky threads with 2.6.x kernel information. I personally haven't tried the 2.6 kernel yet.
    Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
    Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
    Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI

I'm holding off moving to the 2.6 linux kernel until the next Matrox linux driver release...

Now that there is a knoppix version out with the 2.6 kernel. I think I will add nforce and P drivers to the ISO and see if I can get it to work.
I should have bought an ATI.

Sweet! If you can get it work, please host it somewhere, I'd love to have a Knoppix that supported the mtx module.

            Hey Piax! Dotn stop there!
Add ATI Radeon support as well.

Its a darn shame that its such a job adding drivers to the KNoppix releases....

I know someone with a 9600XT I could use for testing, so adding Radeon drivers could be possible.

Well if I added all those drivers to it, I wouldn't be able to redistribute it legally. Maybe some terrible accident will happen and it will make it's way on to BT.
I should have bought an ATI.

I was thinking about that... perhaps a copy might have to hit Overnet as well....

Bah, how are some companies going to get wide spread usage in linux if they won't let us add support to the live CD's, which is a VERY good way to convert people....... They need to at the very least change their distribution license. Does it actually specify in the license that you can't redistribute the binary only for a specific kernel? (As in you've compiled it for say 2.4.24-686 and you only distribute the mtx.o for that kernel, along with mtx_drv.o for XFree86, plus the libGL.so? Of course that might be harder to have set up under Knoppix....)
