Debian probably installs that by default so that it can possibly do a net install over an apple network if it has to. At least that would be my thinking... Since you can mirror all of debian yourself if you really wanted to, on a local machine, then net install that way.... it'd be good for if you were installing an a whole lot of machines at the same time. Or if you were in a corporate environment and wanted to use specific packages in your distribution, you could use a Mac as a file server.
