  • Goodbye matrox - Card sold !

I've have been a Matrox fan for a long time and have been
very happy with the cards and support.

But since I bought my P650 card, there have been nothing but disappointments concerning the support. I have waited for the linux new drivers for about 6 months and I have now decided that

    I won't wait anymore.

The card is sold and I have bought an Nvidia.

    Goodbye Matrox.

Yeah, same here, except that my card was a Parhelia (4x) and I haven't sold it yet. I need to, though. I bought an nVidia card as well. A 6800 GT. Namely for the linux support. Wow, imagine that, a card that actually works fully under linux!

Me too. My Parhelia was replaced by a cheap ATI 9600 Pro, and as opposed to the Parhelia, it actually works. Kernel 2.6 and x.org 6.7, and hey, it's not crashing my SMP machine when using OpenGL. Whadda'ya know.

I can safely say that the Parhelia was the last card I will ever buy from Matrox.

Well Matrox is struggling and probably can't afford to spend time and resources on a niche market.
Albatorsk what are the new ATI drivers like???

But But But... the only thing they have left after ignoring mainstream IS niche markets

Do you mean 3.11.1? I've had no problem with them so far. Just like with 3.9, 3.8 and 3.7

They're not as easy to install as nVidia's drivers (unless you're using RedHat), but how often does one need to replace working video drivers?

              When you try another distro.

Well, by then you would have allready installed it on the dristro you were using before, so you would know how to go about doing it again

Have you looked at their niche markets?

Some of those specialty cards (such as the PCI-E Parhelia 256 w/video I/O) sell for $2400+, not to mention editing cards like the RT.X100 that list for $1200-$1400 (depending on s/w bundle).

Then there are the medical and professional imaging products and the videographers/content creators who just love the Parhelia and P-750. These are rather good sized markets.

More money in those "niche" than in gaming guys.
