Overall nice. Works with the X800 XT PE which earlier versions wouldn't do properly even with the standard vesa driver.

Why they sell two versions, the upgrade and the full I don't know as the upgrade allows you to do a clean install anyway.

The package comes on 5 cd's and two DVD's with a nice big manual. The only problem is that the manual presumes the graphical interfaces work all the time which we all know they don't. So when your looking for a command line instruction which you've forgotten you have to google for it. It's more a beginners guide than a administrators guide.

The most amusing bit was the inbuilt firewall that failed to enable the ports for Samba even though you ticked the box for it.

Since the firewall got bugs I decided to turn it off and depend on the router firewall.

Tried using Konstruct to upgrade KDE to the latest build which failed due to missing directorys. I guess Konstruct doesn't understand Suse installs. I then decided to see if Suse had actually put the update on the ftp site by changing the software source update to point at it and bingo they had. So I've now got KDE 3.3.2 rather than 3.3.0.
Suse haven't mentioned the fact yet.

Now I believe I need special drivers from ATI for the Suse distro since it uses Xorg rather than Xfree for it's graphical drivers. I'm told that they're supposed to be compatable with each other but I can remember Anandtech needing special drivers to get his Suse to work.

If you are using suse 9.2 I think it defaults to xorg 6.8. Which is currently not working with ati's drivers but an update is due within a month(or so).

From what I have heard the preferred method of installing ati drivers on suse is to use the suse packaged version becasue they actually have very good relationship with ATI and they install a lot better then the generic ati drivers (even tho ati drivers suck)

You could revert to xorg 6.7 if you need 3d, but I would stick with 6.8 and wait for the official suse/ati updated driver appears as it will save a lot of hassles in the long run.

Pity really as Suse 9.2 seem to be the only distro that sees the card. I think Fedora saw the card but couldn't see sata drives so it wouldn't install.

I guess I'll have to wait around six months for ATI to do something then.

      Cheers.

Can't see them still wondering if Anand did get special drivers for the test or not.

Ah he used Suse 9.1 which uses Xfree86. Strange as that OS wouldn't reconise my X800 XT PE at all when I tried it.
