  • How to install Parhelia drivers in Linux

    Please bear with me, I'm booting Linux for 4th time now (previously LiveCDs and other boxen).

    So far running binary installer outputs error:

    Currently installed driver is the same as the installer file.
    X server driver not installed.
    
    Messages are being logged in file make.log,
    this might take some time.
    Also I can't find make.log.

    I need your help.

    OK, the manual says:

    Code:
    - Note for SuSE 9.2 users will need to run the following two commands as root before using
      the matrox installer :
    
      make cloneconfig
      make modules_prepare
    However when I execute the two

    linux:~/Drivers # make cloneconfig
    make: *** No rule to make target `cloneconfig'.  Stop.
    linux:~/Drivers # make modules_prepare
    make: *** No rule to make target `modules_prepare'.  Stop.
    I get errors.

      OK: needed to have kernel source installed and execute SuSE specific commands there.

      Driver has been compiled,

      Now X-server won't start with Vesa, which probably means I need xorg.conf config file. Samples should supposedly be somewhere as per readme, but where. Matrox forums being down for weekends is really helpful.

        OK I have finally found the damn Matrox fora back online and saw that i needed to extract the damn driver in order to acces the damn samples. (README - see samples - but where are the samples.).

        I have the driver installed. When I want to change resolution/refres the X fails to start, but it works 1024x768 @ 60hz. Oh well, time for some more config editing.

          OK everything is just dandy, enemy territory runs with similar FPS as in Windows.

          Transparency (KDE 3.4 - novelty) works but then OpenGL doesn't work (Linux thing - for all cards). It's also a bit sluggish.
