  • Gimmie Bar - new design for desktop user interaction

Looks really promising. Check out the presentation. At first looks like a color coded OS X bar, but really much more.

Interesting. Can't say it ever reminded me of the OS X dock, more like an extension of the pager/panel already present in Gnome, KDE and others, which it essentially is.

Be good to see how this copes with a larger workflow. I do like the concept though, as it, regarding the OS X dock association, one of the major problems with said dock - the lack of an easy way to navigate to distinct windows belonging to an application (namely documents). Something that has started to plague Gnome and KDE as well in some like and differing ways.

One of the problems he lists is that it takes away a lot of vertical screen space. With the people owning such large monitors now, and especially widescreens, horizontal space is abundant.

Although maybe I'm in the minority of not viewing webpages fullsize on resolutions higher than 800x600, which I see a lot of people doing.
