A very quick review - one paragraph or so...

If you like where Ubuntu is going - it is GREAT.

Performance is greatly improved - I have it runing on several PCs - and a virtual VMbox for banking and stuff...

The Ubuntu One and the new UI stuff didnt work well in earlier builds as the gpu was not up to snuff. Now it does. Nuff said.

It detected all my peripherals flawlessly on the 64bit version - except for a keymapping I had where it defaulted to a US keyboard. This might have been my fault in the first place, as I had messed about with this in an earlier build which was subsequently upgraded. The 2 others I built were from scratch - and had no such problems...
    your milage may vary.

    On the down side.
If you dont like the program manager application - you really wont like this one - it is very mac - reminiscent. There is no grouping or add remove programs in the old style (that I can find) - the older build would operate either way.

    Recommend? YES
For your parents? - absolutely. I put my mum and dad on ubuntu (they are in their 70's) years ago - they mainly surf, listen to internert radio and email. I dont think they know there is a terminal. They dont need it. Everything (including a fairly obscure printer and scanner) worked without messing about. They can bank with confidence on ubuntu - its why they didnt like windows.

    RedRed
Dont just swallow the blue pill.

I'm not crazy about unity which is why I log into the classic gnome.

However, I had to install synaptic and gnome tweak tool back and ran

      sudo apt-get remove appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-gtk appmenu-qt

to get that annoying top bar out of the way.

Also, to edit the panels like you used to do, you now have to hold down ALT while right clicking on the panel.

I am WAY past "not crazy" about unity or gnome3
To me they are basically not usable.

And what's with fewer and fewer look and feel options?
Your options for window borders seem to run the gamut from black to grey!?

Looks like I will have to go with XUbuntu this time. Or maybe Mint.
Too bad, I really liked Ubuntu.

You can try installing gnome-tweak-tool as that seems to give you more options for your desktop. Not sure why it's not there by default.

I did. It adds a little, but nothing like what used to be available.
            Weird.

My theory is that they are trying to turn it into a iPhone screen.

              I agree.

              Try installing gnome-color-chooser

After installation, it'll appear in the "Other" section.

One thing about it has gotten way better, and that's the installer.

Ten minutes after my last post XUbuntu was on it. (my work linux machine)

I'll try that on a vm install at home.
