    Hey, don't you think I already know the difference between no bump mapping and EMBM??? I was like the first guy to preorder a G400 from Matrox...

    My screenshots were just there to demonstrate a few things:

    1) The GeForce 3 is fast...

    2) The GeForce 3 doesn't seem to support EMBM in hardware, something that maybe is cause by buggy NEDs, I don't know for sure...
    Also, the only way I got SOME games working is to disable 4x AGP and to underclock the core from 200MHz to 150MHz... There a lot of Direct3D games that won't even start...

    3) You can't run the G400 version of Expendable on a GeForce 3 card...

    Also, I repeat that I would NEVER use this card on a daily basis at high resolutions... I have two Sony E400 monitor, which are VERY high quality 19" CRT, and I still only use a G400/G450 with them... Although the GeForce 3 2D output quality has improved over the G2GTS' one, the difference between it and the G400/G450 is like black and white at high-res... Currently, the only purpose I can find for the GeForce 3 is to run GLMarks and NVIDIA's Cameleon demo to impress your friends. Of course, there's currently no card that can even touch the GF3's Raw 3D power and features... I just hope M did a good job with the G800 so I can show off to my friends when I get one...

      Yo Frankie...shoot me over those jpgs, I`ll post them somehow...
      Your links are no go...to me anyhow...

      BTW...I`ve heard that the GF-line`s crappy 2D had nothin` to do with the chip itself per say, but the crappy Ramdac-filters, that the OEMs supplied their cards with...
      After all they figured, FPS uber alles...time will tell...

      Will there be bugs at first?...Hell, how old is the G-XXX line... ?

      I`m not yet an Nvidiot... ...reachin` for straws...

      Oh yeah BTW, thanx for your time and efforts...nice to have the alternative administered gently by a fella matroxuser...

          Thanks Greebe

          Toecutter, your right, the 2D quality problem of NVIDIA cards is related to the poorly designed capacitors and resistors array between the chip and the sub-15 connector. There a mod for the GF2GTS/MX, but since I don't have the steadiest hands when soldering and there's no GF3 mod on the net yet, I decided to stick to my current configuration: use the DVI output with a DVI->Sub-15 adapter. Anyway, the Sub-15 connector on my board doesn't work...

          Oh, I'll download 3Dmarks2k1 today and maybe post a few screenies later this week...

          BTW, for those still wondering, the shots posted are Bump-mapping enabled (it's the demo; the G400 version of expendable doesn't work with non-Matrox hardware...); It only shows that there's either a bug with the NEDs I'm using, or that the GF3 doesn't support EMBM...

            I've just read Anandtech's article on the Kyro II, and god, I really wish the G800's got some HSR techniques...with a programmable T&L engine...!!! Anyone wanna trade a Kyro II for my GF3???

                Hi,

                With a G2GTS, I was getting about 90 FPS;
                With a Radeon, I was getting about 75 FPS;
                With a G400, I was getting about 40-50 FPS...

                The G4X0 3D speed is simply puny compared to other cards... Yesterday, I downloaded 3DMarks 2001; I tested the cards on a Celeron 600 @900 with 256 MB RAM; The G400 got 1200, the Radeon got 2100 and the GF3 got 3200; However, the G400 and Radeon were penalized because the could not run the Nature test and Point Sprite...

                    I have to agree with you; right now, if you want to buy a 3D card as fast or faster than a GF2Ultra and don't mind the lack of T&L, the Kyro II is the card for you!!! and for $150 US, it's even a better value than the GeForce 2 MX or the Radeon LE 32 MB DDR, price/performance wise...

                    BTW, I don't know what happenned, but I don't have to lower the core+mem speed of my GF3 to run D3D apps/games anymore; I've retested it on 3DMarks 2001 and got 4750 instead of 3200... (it's now running at 250 core/250DDR mem, where it was previously set @ 150 core/175 mem).

                    Nevertheless, I think I would recommend the Kyro II to every gamers out there. The only thing that tickles me is the 270 MHz RAMDAC... Any one's got a Kyro -ONE- out there??? How about the 2D quality at say 1600x1200@32bits???
