  • Here's another 4mb Mpeg demoing the Marvel G400!

    Hi Guys,

This is a 28 second 4mb mpeg showing again colour and clarity.

The file is called Marvel G400 demo 2.mpg
I took that video in downtown Manhattan NYC.
Again shot with the XL1 with no filters on.

    Enjoy.

    here's the link http://216.15.144.49/Marvel%20G400%20demo%202.mpg

Image quality looks pretty good to me.

Unfortunately it seems the G400 Marvel still has the same problem as the G200 Marvel with trandcoded video shifted down and right leaving a black border on the top and left. Perhaps a few pixels narrower than I get with my G200 Marvel or did you trim the clip?

Bummer Matrox still hasn't fixed this :-(

No I did not trim the clip

The boarder is because I originally captured at 704x480 so when I created the mpeg clip the boarders appeared because of the resolution change.
The change was done from 704x480 to 320x240
      you do the math

      Elie

        Hi Elie,

I like the quality of your clip. Even when enlarged twice, it still looks very good. What I also noticed was that picture became substantially sharper, when you slowed down your "sweeping". It is clearly seen on the big faces "Mega Zoom" in the beginning. As I need to make a video of a stage with a guy walking back and forth, I want to ask you what kind of codec did you use?
Actually, I will appreciate to know the whole procedure you used. As I understand, you capture MJPEG at full resolution and max quality, with ~6:1 compression. Then, you bring it to, say, Media Studio and set Field B, deinterlaced. Afterwards, you save the video as frames with lower resolution, and then you use a codec to make this mpeg file.
Am I right? Did I miss something?
        Thank you in advance.

          Hi,

Your right all the way up to the point were I captured at full res 704x480 6.6:1 30fps.

But I created the avi in frame based mode not Field order B deinterlaced.
Then I brought the clip back into Ulead and did a create video file chose the mpeg format 200kbps 29.97 fps frame based 320x240 res.

At this point Ulead did not give me a choice to use mpeg 4 or mpeg 1 so I asumed it's using mpeg 1 by default.

          Regards,
          Elie

Please do the math for me.

I must be too stupid to see how 704x480
when resized to 320x240 forces black borders on the top and left edges.

I can keep the entire processing chain the same except for input codec. A 704x480 DMB1 (marvel) codec converted to 352x240 leaves a black border on the top and left edges of any AVI or MPEG independent of AVI (non-DMB1) codec or if I use Xing or Ligos for MPEG.

Copying an ATI captured 640x480 (VCR2 codec)
clip to my system (after installing VCR2 codec) and producing a 352x240 Indeo or MPEG
I don't get the black bars on the top and left edges.

I'm not saying the ATI capture is better cause it clearly is not, but the Matrox codec introduces a defect. I'm dissappointed it's not fixed in the G400 Marvel.

If it doesn't bother you fine, but it bothers me greatly.
