  • Matrox PC-VCR capture quality

I have successfully captured video clips greater than 2GB with PC-VCR, but there is a considerable difference in the quality of video clips captured with the Matrox PC-VCR compared with those captured with Media Studio Pro.

With the PC-VCR the resulting clips are low in colour saturation and contrast, with poor highlight gradation, compared with those captured with Media Studio. Any comments?

Is there any way of adjusting the PC-VCR capture characteristics? If not, then I must use Media Studio vidcap. However, I wonder if Media Studio is capable of capturing clips greater than the 2GB file size limit, as is possible with PC-VCR?

In theory there shouldn't be any difference, since the values in the registry should be used by both programs.

However, there is a way to change them in PC-VCR. Bring up the remote, and right-click. Select "properties" and then the "video" tab. You now have sliders to control Brightness, Contrast, Hue and Saturation. Commonly folks pump the saturation well up, but you'll want to experiment with this displaying captured MJPEGs back to TV in order to check the effect on output. Certainly on my setup I get a lot more saturation on TV-O than I do on the PC monitor.
