  • RT 2000 and NT 4.0

    Hello everyone!

I'm considering buying the RT2000 when it ships, but I'm running Windows NT 4.0 (Service pack 5), and as far as I can tell from the info that I've come across, it'll only be supported by Win '98 and Win 2000. Is this correct? If so, are there any plans for NT support?

I'll be using it together with a Sony TRV 900 camera, on a PII 350 (384Mb RAM).

Thank you for a very useful forum!

    Oyvind

Only Win98 and Win2000 have the support for DV that the RT2K needs. Whether or not NT4.0 will have that same support is doubtful, since MS probably won't want to support NT4.0 much beyond what it offers now.

      Hello Oyvind!

Probably your name trickered my responce.

I too want to build a semi-profession NLE
with the RT2000 and a normal PC.
I've even tried to promote the idea amongs more
or less professionel people here in Copenhagen,
      But all in vain.
It seems like people who have already invested
some great sums in their NLE are having great
problems in accepting that prices on well
working NLE's are dropping dramatical in
      these years.
Anyway I'm very interested in keeping in touch
about the new card, and what it takes to
      make a good NLE.

Just received mail from the Danish resailer
of Matrox products and she said that she was
expecting the Danish price to be around
13.000dKR (about 1.800$) and probably without
VAT, which is 25% here :-(

So all in all it would be nice to hear from
all of you purchasing the RT2000 in Europe
      (Germany?) (UK?)
And if we were a few together, would we be
able to get a better price?
Would we be able to convince Matrox so sell
us directly from factory in Canada?

      Oh, well just a thought!

Thank you guys for such a quick response!!

Maybe I should consider running Win '98 for a period of time until Win 2000 eventually hit the streets (whenever that would be...).

I'm also going to check out the new DV500 from Pinnacle Systems. In Norway it's priced at 11,490 NOK (+VAT 23%), or about 1,466.71 US dollars. It also got a nice bundle, but I don't think it features MPEG2-editing, even though it should be able to export to MPEG2.

        Take care,
        Oyvind.

I recently did a naked-drive install of '98SE and it's working great. I think those having problems are those who did an overlay install. This was also a problem in the '95-'98 migration.

As it stands the release of Win2000 server has been delayed AGAIN by Microcrap until Feb at least.

By the time they get out Win2000 for workstations Matrox may have to switch to Linux ;-)) (hint-hint!)

Doc, I keep on saying that this is a family forum. If you have to install '98, please can you make sure that you are wearing something at least.

Oy and Ey, please keep your eyes down on this forum, we will be bringing news of the RT2K as soon as it becomes available. I haven't heard a release date yet, although my best bet at this moment is late Q4 (lets call that December). I would expect that it will be available via the Matrox online shop, but bear in mind that although you may get a cheaper price you might still end up having to pay import duties on the shipping charge.
