You guys crack me up !

Ask anyone in the know, Beta was always better than the rest. Video2000 was next but fated by its late release. What made VHS was the multi-company marketing effort.

You can't watch any kind of news program right now without seeing an article/interview with dem cute Sony dogs. Now ain't it a shame that Sony only built 10,000 of them ? There's going to be serious trouble in the playgroung in January when the kids go back to school after christmas !

Grigory, I don't understand why after all this time your sense of humour has just kicked into action ! Keep laughing bro, it's giving me a smile a night at least !

Grigory has always had a sense of humour, Chris. It's just that it's been difficult to understand our Russian friend at times!

No complaints about AIBO... I just wish they'd come out with a ROTTWEILER version!

Just look SONY kept BETAMAX to themselves and it failed, not technicaly but in the market place. Sony didn't hoard HI8, and it took off, and by and large beat the "conveniance" of VHS-C.

It's true that beta failed because of the lack of marketing versus the instense marketing that the VHS consortium put up.

But it isn't true that they kept it to themselves, I owned 2 beta decks, neither of them Sony. The first one ran for ten years without a problem, but when it eventually developed one the parts weren't available. The second one was a secondhand job as a stop-gap while we transferred our footage to VHS (yep, we read the writing on the wall)
