IRQ - in tears again!!! - please help me -

I recently rebuilt my PC. I thought all was well - untill I tried video capture, now all I get is:
'Matrox card cant start - No IRQ assigned.'
Trouble is it then tells you how to set one manually but ONLY if you have PCI - and of course I have AGP.

Help - what do I do?
I do NOT have an old video card around so please dont suggest swaping and then reinserting the G200 Marvel cuz I cant.

I look forward to answers with anticipation - cuz I have alittle job to do urgently.

The BIOS should be assigning one to the card, regardless if it's PCI or AGP.

Look for the option:
Assign IRQ to VGA on your BIOS setup.
(Chipset Features I think it is... or wherever you have the PNP management)
Should be the screen where it asked if you have an PNP OS, etc.

What motherboard do you have?

you might also try removing whatever other cards you have on the mb and configure your video card first. this way you are sure it will be assigned an irq. another thing i heard was that with some mb you should leave the first pci slot empty when you have an agp video card.

It will get assigned an IRQ only if the option is on in the CMOS (BIOS). The first PCI and AGP slots generaly shair an IRQ, so you don't want a card in the that needs one RR-G or V2s (heaven forbid) should be OK as they don't use an IRQ). Look in your MB manual or poke around in the BIOS till you find how to turn it on. You can't (well shouldn't) hurt anything by looking around in the BIOS, just don't make any changes, and SAVE&EXIT. If your not sure, chose EXIT WITHOUT SAVEING, and start over.

I have now got it sorted - the 'assign IRQ to VGA' in the BIOS was 'disabled', why - I dont know, I just 'enabled' it and hey Bingo.
